Bernadine Burnette, former President of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, is celebrated for nearly three decades of visionary leadership in Arizona and throughout Indian Country. Under her stewardship, the Nation expanded businesses like the We-Ko-Pa Resort & Golf Club, diversified economic enterprises, and modernized essential infrastructure—transforming a community once without running water into a thriving sovereign nation.
Her dedication has earned her numerous honors, including Arizona’s Most Influential Women (2019) by Arizona Business Magazine, the Indian Gaming Advocate of the Year Award (2012) from the National Indian Gaming Association, and the Phoenix Indian Center Outstanding Woman of the Year Award (2012). She has also served in key leadership roles as Chair of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association, Western Region Vice President of the National Congress of American Indians, Secretary of the National Indian Gaming Association, and President of the Inter-Tribal Council of Arizona.
